Day 20: Towels

Somewhere in your home lurks a closet overflowing with mismatched, threadbare towels. Let’s be real with ourselves… some of those beach towels haven’t seen the beach since Y2K. Unless your planning to start a bed and breakfast you don’t need 27 towels per person. Time to reclaim some much needed space in your linen closet before towels end up needing their own zip code.

Step 1: Gather

  • Grab every towel in the house. (bath, hand, beach etc.)

  • Lay them all out based on category so you can see what you have.

Step 2: Set limits (per person)

  • 2-3 bath towels

  • 2 hand towels

  • 2 washcloths

  • 2 kitchen towels

  • 2 beach/pool

  • 2-3 pet friendly towels (if needed)

  • Add a few for guests to be safe

Step 3: Donate/Repurpose

  • Intact/Clean towels can be donated to local charities

  • Intact but not clean towels can be donated to animal shelters

  • Fraying/Damaged towels can be used in the garage or recycled

To recycle towels with other textiles check out an H&M store near you and feel good about not adding to landfills!
