Day 14: Kid’s Art
It’s everywhere! Even though you love it and want to show it off… it’s no Picasso and your wall space is running thin. So what do you do? How do you throw away your child’s creations like they are the latest realtor pamphlets shoved in your mailbox?
First find a designated area to display their masterpieces. Once the area is full, take down the current art and start again. Having a rotation allows you to show your appreciation for their talents, but make room as they grow as an artist.
Once its time on display is done you have 3 options on how to proceed.
If it is something that is special to you and conjures a specific joyful memory, think about saving it in a tote for them to look back on as an adult. Be careful, those totes fill up quickly so be choosy about what stays!
Take a photo of it! Instead of having an overflowing drawer where things get smushed and ruined, take a picture of it and make your child a photobook of all their artwork for the year! This idea takes up less space and still allows you to retain your memories without 10 totes in your attic over the course of 18 years.
Simply say goodbye. Take away your guilt in getting rid of some things. You’re not a bad parent and chances are with time and new art entering the house, they won’t remember that one specific water color smear fest.
